ABUJA, Nigeria — In a major diplomatic shift, U.S. President Donald Trump has officially commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his "decisive leadership" in combating terrorism and addressing violence affecting Christian communities across Nigeria.

The official correspondence, dated July 6, 2026, was publicly released by President Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

In the letter, President Trump expressed strong support for Nigeria's ongoing security operations and highlighted the deepening military alliance between Washington and Abuja.

   "It is a true honor to stand with you in the fight against terrorists and to make the Federal   Republic of Nigeria stronger and more prosperous," Trump wrote.
