Troops Foil ISWAP Attempted School Abduction in Borno, Rescue 46 Students

Borno school kidnap attempt: Security forces have successfully foiled an attempted mass abduction by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists at the Federal Government Girls College (FGGC) in Monguno, Borno State, 46 students reported to be rescued.

The attack reportedly occurred around 1:30 a.m. when the terrorists allegedly entered the school premises, which is currently being used as temporary hostel accommodation for students of the Federal Polytechnic, Monguno. According to the military, the attackers were confronted by troops of Operation HADIN KAI and personnel of the Nigeria Police Mobile Force (MOPOL), who responded quickly and prevented the abduction.

The military said all 46 students were rescued and taken to a secure location, where they received medical checks and appropriate care. However, it also confirmed that some students were fatally struck by gunfire during the exchange between security forces and the attackers. 

Authorities said the terrorists were forced to flee after reinforcements arrived with overwhelming firepower. Investigations are ongoing into reports that suspected collaborators may have helped the attackers gain access to the facility. Security agencies are also pursuing the fleeing suspects.

The military expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and reassured residents that efforts are being intensified to protect schools and other public institutions across the North-East.
