FG Launches New Digital Identity Initiative to Improve Access to Government Services

Nigeria Digital Identity: The Federal Government has announced a new digital identity initiative designed to make it easier for Nigerians to access public services online while strengthening national identity verification.

According to government officials, the initiative will improve access to services such as healthcare, banking, education, tax administration, and social intervention programmes. The system is also expected to reduce identity fraud and streamline the delivery of government services.

The new platform will integrate existing identity databases and encourage more Nigerians to register for a secure digital identity. Authorities say the initiative forms part of Nigeria's broader digital transformation agenda and aims to support economic growth through improved digital infrastructure.

Experts believe that a reliable digital identity system will help businesses verify customers more efficiently, improve financial inclusion, and support innovation across various sectors.

The government has urged citizens who have not yet enrolled for a National Identification Number (NIN) to do so, as digital identity will play a greater role in accessing both public and private sector services in the future.
