Osun Governorship Election 2026: Adeleke Wins as INEC Declares Accord Candidate 20,721
Governor Ademola Adeleke has been declared the winner of the 2026 Osun State governorship election, securing another term in office after defeating his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adeleke, who contested under the Accord Party, the winner after the final results from the state's 30 local government areas were collated.

Adeleke's total gave him a 66,252-vote advantage over Oyebamiji.
The election produced 985,079 valid votes from 1,005,800 votes cast, while 20,721 votes were rejected.
INEC declares Adeleke winner
INEC's State Returning Officer, Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, formally declared Adeleke the winner after the completion of the statewide collation in Osogbo.
The declaration followed the collation of results from all 30 local government areas in Osun State.
The result means Adeleke has secured another four-year mandate as governor of Osun State.
A closely contested election
Although Adeleke won the statewide vote by more than 66,000 votes, the results showed that the contest was competitive across the state.
Adeleke won 19 of Osun's 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won 11 LGAs.
The distribution of the LGA victories showed that the APC candidate performed strongly in several areas, but Adeleke's overall vote advantage was enough to secure victory.
What the result means for Adeleke
The victory gives Adeleke a fresh mandate to continue governing Osun State.
It also marks another significant stage in his political career. Adeleke previously won the Osun governorship election in 2022 under the Peoples Democratic Party before later leaving the PDP and contesting the 2026 election under the Accord Party.
His successful re-election means the governor will continue in office for another four-year term.
APC's response
Following the announcement, attention shifted to the response from the APC and its candidate.
Reports indicated that the party was studying the results from the state's wards and considering its available options under the Electoral Act.
Any subsequent legal challenge or official development would provide a new chapter in the aftermath of the election.
Why the Osun election matters
The 2026 Osun governorship election was closely watched because of the political competition between the incumbent governor and the APC challenger.
